At the sitting held on 4 February, the Environmental Protection Committee discussed the 2011 Report on the condition of the soil in the Republic of Serbia, which is part of the 2011 Report on the condition of the environment in the Republic of Serbia.
Representatives of the Ministry of Energy, Development and Environmental Protection and the Environmental Protection Agency spoke about the Report. The Report was said to have been drafted based on the monitoring implemented via the national indicators established by Governmental Ordinance which include the area of degraded soil, organic carbon content in the soil, management of contaminated localities and changes in the manner of soil use.
Agency Director Momcilo Zivkovic informed the Committee Members that the Agency had made an operative plan for the period 2013-2015 which, among other things, covers the funds necessary for the monitoring of soil, water and air quality. The Committee members asked the Ministry and Agency representatives for answers and explanations about the contaminated localities in the Republic of Serbia, food safety supervision in said localities, leakage of waste waters into rivers and recultivated areas.
Following a short debate, the Committee adopted the 2011 Report on the condition of the soil in the Republic of Serbia.
In the continuation, the Committee members consulted about the organisation of the public hearing on “The impact of genetically modified organisms (transgenics) on the environment and health”, scheduled for 6 February 2013.
