16th Sitting of the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee

At the sitting held on 9 December, the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee discussed the current situation in livestock breeding – production, import and export of meat and milk.

The sitting was attended by Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Nenad Katanic and associates from the Veterinary Directorate and Livestock Breeding Group of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, representative of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce Nenad Budimirovic and a representative of the company “Mlekoprodukt” from Zrenjanin.

Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Nenad Katanic said that the effects of payments into livestock breeding and agriculture as a whole are currently being analysed and assessed with the goal of securing additional funds next year for the stimulation of livestock breeding.

Nenad Budimirovic of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce presented the data relating to the export and import of meat, meat products, milk and dairy in the first ten months of the year, pointing out that Serbia needed to keep up production so as not to become dependent on import.

In the course of a long discussion the Committee members concluded that the stimulus should not be reduced and additional measures should be instituted to maintain the cattle stock and stimulate the development of livestock breeding and export of livestock products.
After the discussion the Committee members adopted conclusions.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Marijan Risticevic.
