At the fifteenth session of the Board of Inquiry Charged with Ascertaining the Truth about New-born Babies Abducted from Maternity Wards in Several Serbian Cities, held on 9 November, the deputies interviewed DNA analysis experts.
The session was attended by Oliver Stojkovic, forensic geneticist and head of the DNA Laboratory at the Institute of Forensic Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Belgrade University, Dusan Keckarevic of the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, and Igor Veselinovic, of the Forensic Medicine Institute at the Novi Sad Clinical Centre.
The forensic experts explained the procedure, from taking samples needed for DNA analysis to interpreting the findings, and underlined that the Ministry of Health needed to adopt bylaws to further regulate the field.
The Board of Inquiry heard that certain tissue samples sent for analysis in connection with the missing children proved impossible to analyse, as well as that some parents failed to attend experts’ hearings, while the fact that the parents should fund the proceedings was another particularly troublesome issue.
