15th Sitting of the Health and Family Committee
At the sitting held on 22 January, the Health and Family Committee discussed the Bill on Prevention and Diagnosis of Genetic Disorders, Genetically Determined Anomalies and Rare Disorders, submitted by MP Prof. Dr Dusan Milisavljevic, in principle.
The sitting was attended by State Secretary at the Ministry of Health Prof. Dr Berislav Vekic who said that more than seven thousand globally registered rare conditions were currently afflicting about 350 million people worldwide. Vekic said that Serbia should set up a register of rare conditions and draft legislation to regulate the role of each healthcare segment in their treatment. He added that, in addition to prevention and diagnosis, the Bill should regulate the treatment of rare conditions.
The sitting was also attended by Radmila Savic, representative of the Republic Health Insurance Fund, who took part in the ensuing debate.
After the debate, the Committee members unanimously accepted the Bill in principle.
