14th session of the Board of Inquiry Charged with Ascertaining the Truth about New-born Babies Abducted from Maternity Wards in Several Serbian Cities

At its fourteenth session, held on 2 November, the Board of Inquiry Charged with Ascertaining the Truth about New-born Babies Abducted from Maternity Wards in Several Serbian Cities interviewed judicial officials about criminal charges filed by parents seeking truth about their children.


At its fourteenth session, held on 2 November, the Board of Inquiry Charged with Ascertaining the Truth about New-born Babies Abducted from Maternity Wards in Several Serbian Cities interviewed judicial officials about criminal charges filed by parents seeking truth about their children.
Members of the Board of Inquiry interviewed Evica Mijatovic and Krsman Ilic, Deputy Republic Public Prosecutors; Radomir Vujacic, Investigating Magistrate with the Nis Municipal Court; Branislav Vetrovic, former Raca District Public Prosecutor; and Snezana Bogdanovic, Public Prosecutor of Belgrade’s Second Municipal Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The judicial officials explained the procedure for dealing with filings. They informed the deputies of instructions for handling criminal charges for abduction of minors.
According to Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office data, of 760 cases where parents claim their children were abducted at birth, only 34 families filed criminal charges. A total of 539 cases were rejected, of which 388 due to application of statute of limitations. No evidence of a criminal offence was found in a large number of cases, members of the Board of Inquiry heard.
