13th Sitting of the Foreign Affairs Committee

At the sitting held on 28 February, the Foreign Affairs Committee discussed and accepted several initiatives for visits by National Assembly representatives, as well as several reports on visits and contacts realised.


The Committee accepted the invitation sent to the Head of the National Assembly’s Parliamentary Friendship Group with Bulgaria, Stefan Zankov, to take part in the celebration of the 135th anniversary of Bulgaria’s liberation, in Sofia, on 2 and 3 March 2013, as well as the invitation to send representatives of the Committee on Administrative, Budgetary, Mandate and Immunity Issues to the seminar on Parliamentary Ethics and Code of Conduct organised by the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights in Warsaw, Poland, on 5 and 6 March 2013. The Committee members also accepted the invitation to the Seventh Interparliamentary Meeting European Parliament - National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, on 18 and 19 March 2013.
They also adopted the Plan of parliamentary seminars/roundtables for the members of the parliaments of EU candidate and potential candidate countries in Brussels or on location in the region in the course of 2013, organised by the European Parliament’s Directorate for Democracy Support, Directorate-General for External Policies and Department for Pre-Accession Assistance. The Committee endorsed the initiative to establish cooperation and realise a meeting between the National Assembly’s Health and Family Committee and the Czech Parliament’s Health Committee and sent an invitation for a return visit of the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee, to the Russian Duma’s Committee for International Affairs.
Discussing the regular activities of the standing delegations in the upcoming period, the Committee accepted the initiative to take part in the NATO PA Rose-Roth Joint Seminar, from 2 to 5 April 2013, in Marrakech, Morocco, the initiative to take part in the 83rd Rose-Roth Seminar, from 29 April to 1 May 2013, in Tbilisi, Georgia, the initiative to take part in the visit of the NATO PA Committee on the Civil Dimension of Security to Macedonia, from 21 to 23 March 2013, as well as to take part in the meeting of the Council of Europe PA Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons, in Rabat, Morocco, on 4 April 2013. The NARS standing delegation will take part in the Council of Europe PA April Session, in Strasbourg, France, from 22 to 26 April 2013, as well as in the meeting of the Legal and Political Affairs Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, in Brussels, on 25 April 2013.
The Committee went on to accept the reports on realised visit.: the Report on the participation of the National Assembly’s standing delegation at the Council of Europe PA January Session, from 21 to 25 January 2013, Report on the meeting of the chairs of the Conference of the Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the EU (COSAC), 27 - 28 January 2013, in Dublin, Ireland, and the Report on the visit of MPs Aleksandar Cotric, Chairman of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, and Aleksandra Djurovic, Committee member, to FR Germany, to take part in the professional consultations in Berlin, on 16 December 2012.
The Committee noted the records of the contacts realised by the National Assembly Speaker, MA Nebojsa Stefanovic, in January and February 2013, viz. his meeting with the ambassadors of Japan, Slovenia, USA and Denmark in Belgrade, a delegation of the Finnish Parliament’s Grand Committee, the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the Head of the OSCE Mission in Belgrade and the commander of the Allied Operation Command and commander of the US Armed Forces European Command.
The list of realised contacts also contained the meetings realised by the parliamentary friendship groups: the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Greece and the Head of the Hellenic Parliament’s Friendship Group with Serbia, as well as the meeting of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Portugal and the Charge d’Affairs of the Portuguese Embassy in Belgrade. The last two months also saw meetings between the parliamentary friendship groups with Japan, Germany, Slovakia, Iran, Argentina, the Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Poland and the ambassadors of said countries in Belgrade.
At the end of the sitting, the Committee also accepted the amendments and modifications to the membership of the parliamentary friendship groups with Austria, Kazakhstan, Germany USA, Azerbaijan, Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Japan, China, Hungary, Macedonia, Syria, Slovenia, Tunisia, France, Croatia, Montenegro, United Kingdom, Turkey, Cyprus, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, Albania and the Order of Malta.

The sitting was chaired by Milos Aligrudic, Committee Chairman.
