At its sitting held on 21 December 2005, the Committee on Petitions and Proposals of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia discussed the proposal of the Report on the Activities of the Committee for the period from July 2004 to August 2005.

In the reporting period, the Committee held six sessions, and discussed a total of 18 agenda items. The report also states that, over this period, the Committee’s Service received and processed 1,689 written petitions, including repeated petitions, and took about 5,000 telephone calls; in total, 2,082 verbal addresses were received, most of them by the Service, while a number of concerned parties also spoke with the chairman and members of the Committee.

Judicial authorities and appropriate Ministries proved the most responsive when it came to replying to requests made by the Committee regarding petitions, with about 87% of all requests replied to; local administrative bodies were the least responsive, with about 13% of requests replied to.

Members of the Committee on Petitions and Proposals adopted the Amended Report, in which they took note of the fact that appropriate Government Ministers failed to appear at the Committee’s sittings, but that Deputy and Assistant Ministers regularly took part in the sittings. The Committee expressed its hope that Ministers would prove more willing to attend sittings when invited to do so by the Committee’s chairman and members in the future.

The Report on the Activities of the Committee for the period from July 2004 to August 2005 is to be forwarded to all deputies.

The Committee’s session was chaired by the chairman, Slobodan Adzic.
