12th session of the Education Committee
At the session held on 23 December, members of the Education Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia were acquainted with the final list of candidates for membership on the National Education Council.
At the session held on 23 December, members of the Education Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia were acquainted with the final list of candidates for membership on the National Education Council. It was decided to hold another session of the Education Committee prior to the holding of the National Assembly session to appoint members of the Council, in order for Committee members to be informed in detail of submitters of candidates for membership on the Council and biographies of the candidates.
The Education Committee discussed the report of the Ministry of Education and Sports on the monitoring of instruction of Popular Traditions, an elective subject introduced in schools in the municipalities of Novi Pazar, Tutin, Sjenica and Prijepolje, and resolved to ask the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts and the Chair of Serbian Language and Literature at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Belgrade for an expert opinion as to which language is spoken by the Bosniak ethnic minority.
The Committee also discussed the report of the Ministry of Education and Sports on the situation and issues at the Gorazdevac Primary and Secondary Schools and advised the Ministry to recommend to school boards of 105 schools in Kosovo and Metohia to retain current headmasters.
The session also discussed an official document submitted by the Kosovska Mitrovica Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Pristina for modifying Article 111 of the Draft University Education Act. The Minister of Education and Sports in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Slobodan Vuksanovic, who attended the session, informed members of the Education Committee that all articles of the Draft Act had been harmonised at a meeting with rectors of all state and private faculties.
