12th Sitting of the Health and Family Committee

At the sitting held on 2 February 2022, the members of the Health and Family Committee considered the Bill amending the Law on Items of General Use, submitted by the Government, in principle.

The Bill was presented by State Secretary at the Ministry of Health Predrag Sezdanovic who said that the existing Law needed to be adjusted to EU regulations. Namely, the Law on Items of General Use passed in 2019 defines the term of item of general use and the health safety conditions that have to be met by items of general use placed on the market so as to ensure a high level of protection of the life and health of people and the environment, customer interests and the free movement of goods. In that respect, the Law on Items of General Use has been adjusted to relevant EU regulations in the field, as much as possible as the Republic of Serbia still does not have the status of member state. In June 2021, the European Commission had drawn attention that the transitional provision of Article 120 of the Law on Items of General Use needed to be removed, which is why the Law is being amended.

Following the presentation, the Committee members accepted the Bill in principle.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Dr Sci.med Darko Laketic and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Dr Vesna Ivkovic, Natasa Ivanovic, Olivera Ognjanovic, Dr Marko Bogdanovic, Vesna Krisanov, Ana Miljanic, Marina Mirkovic, Milica Nikolic, Nevena Djuric and Zagorka Aleksic.
