Speaking on the Bill, State Secretary at the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Dragan Popovic highlighted the need to comprehensively regulate the protection of war graves and military memorials so as to preserve the memory and dignity of the resting places of all the Czech and Serbian war victims buried on the two states’ respective territories. According to the Agreement, each side shall bear the maintenance costs for the memorials on its territory, with the possibility for the work required to be funded by the requesting party. Popovic said that the Agreement also defines the customs procedure and a joint commission tasked with following the implementation of the Agreement and resolving open issues.

The Committee members unanimously adopted the Bill on the Confirmation of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the Czech Republic on Protection of War Graves and Military Memorials.
