11th Sitting of the Foreign Affairs Committee

The sitting of the Foreign Affairs Committee held on 31 January, saw the establishment of parliamentary friendship groups with Azerbaijan, Albania, Armenia, Norway, Slovenia and Sweden.


The Committee also noted the amendments and modifications to the membership of the parliamentary friendship groups with Austria, Israel, Cuba, Portugal, Ukraine, Turkey, USA, Macedonia, Italy, Montenegro and Ireland.
At the sitting, the Committee also considered and accepted the invitation to take part at the eighth meeting of the Working Group of the Parliamentary Dimension of the South East Europe Cooperation Process (SEECP), to be held in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia, on 11 and 12 February 2013. The National Assembly’s representative at the meeting will be MP Gordana Comic.
As part of the regular activities of the National Assembly’s standing delegations, the Committee accepted the invitations to send representatives to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s winter meeting in Vienna, 21-22 February 2013 and the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, in Istanbul, on 26 February 2013. The National Assembly’s MPs will also take part in the meeting of the Committee Chairpersons of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy, on 2 March 2013, which will also include a conference with the topic “The social profile of monotheistic religions”, in Istanbul, on 3 and 4 March 2013, and the meeting of the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, in Rabat, Morocco, on 13 and 14 March 2013.
The Committee went on to adopt the reports on the participation of the National Assembly’s standing delegation to the CEI PD in the session of the Parliamentary Dimension of the Central European initiative in Kiev, Ukraine, from 26 to 28 September 2012, and the participation at the Conference of the Chairpersons of Committees on Social Affairs, in Nicosia, Cyprus, in the context of the Cypriot presidency of the EU Council, on 17 December 2012. The Committee members also adopted several reports on the parliamentarians’ meetings with foreign dignitaries.
At the sitting, the Foreign Affairs Committee also accepted the initiative to be the patron of the seminar United Kingdom - Serbia: Promoting Economic Cooperation, to be held in Belgrade, on 4 March 2013.
The Committee also accepted the proposal of Committee member Ivan Andric to establish two National Assembly delegations comprising representatives of all the parliamentary groups, one of which would visit Lithuania in order to speed up the process of ratification of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement, considering that Lithuania is the only European Union member country not to have ratified the Agreement yet. The second delegation would visit the German Parliament in order to expedite the decision-making as regards the date to launch negotiations on EU membership.
This sitting was also the fist electronic sitting of the Foreign Affairs Committee.
