11th Sitting of the Environmental Protection Committee

At the sitting held on 9 December, the members of the Environmental Protection Committee discussed the problems encountered in the trade in medicinal plants.

The sitting was attended by representatives of companies trading in medicinal plants who outlined the problems they encounter in their day-to-day work. They highlighted the long procedure for the issuance of licenses to collect medicinal plants and the domestic and foreign trade in medicinal plants as the biggest obstacle to successful business dealings.

In the discussion between the Committee members, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection and the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, the participants suggested possible ways to address the problems of the small entrepreneurs and administrative problems of the Ministry, and also urged for better coordination of all the actors in the process of collecting medicinal plants and their trade.

Conclusions on the issues discussed will be adopted at one of the upcoming Committee sittings.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Dr Branislav Blazic.
