11th Sitting of the Culture and Information Committee

At the sitting held on 8 July, the Culture and Information Committee considered the Information on the Resolution of the European Committee of the International Confederacy of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) on the disputed articles of the Law on Copyright and Related Rights which came into force on 1 January 2013.

The Committee members said that the disputed articles of the Law should be harmonised with the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia and all the relevant European conventions, opining that copyright has been significantly limited by the last amendments and modifications to the Law of January 2013. They also suggested asking for an opinion on the matter from the institutions and bodies of the Republic of Serbia tasked with harmonising domestic legislation with European Union laws.
Following the debate the Committee decided to send the conclusion on the Information to the relevant ministries for deliberation requesting that the ministries inform the Culture and Information Committee on their views on the matter.
At the sitting, the Committee also considered the request of the Dramatic Union Independence for an authentic interpretation of articles 26 and 32 of the Broadcasting Law and decided to propose that the Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Issues prepare an authentic interpretation of the Law and forward it to the Culture and Information Committee.

The sitting was chaired by Vesna Marjanovic, Committee Chairperson.
