10th, 11th and 12th Sitting of the Security Services Control Committee

Brigadier General Zoran Stojkovic, Director of the Military Intelligence Agency, presented Security Services Control Committee Chairman Igor Becic with a plaque for exceptional cooperation and contribution to the work of the Military Intelligence Agency.


The Security Services Control Committee considered and adopted, at separate sittings, the Inspector General of the Ministry of Defence Services, Military Security Agency and Military Intelligence Agency regular six-month activity reports.

In the reporting period, the Ministry of Defence Inspector General conducted supervision over the legality of the application of special procedures and measures for secret data collection, as well as supervision over the legality of the spending of budgetary and other funds for work of the military security and military intelligence agencies’ centres. During the conducted supervision, the Inspector General did not notice any illegalities or irregularities in the work of the Military Security and Military Intelligence Agency. It was determined that, in the application of special procedures and measures for secret data collection, both agencies had acted in accordance with the law, and that budgetary funds were being spent in accordance with the plans and regulations.

The Military Security Agency has successfully implemented all planned and extraordinary key tasks. Despite the special working conditions caused by the coronavirus virus epidemic, the Military Security Agency has managed to ensure the realisation of planned and extraordinary tasks and to successfully conduct security and counterintelligence measures fort the protection of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Army within its competences, in accordance with the law and its powers.

Through cooperation with the leadership and command of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Army, competent authorities of the Republic of Serbia, related security services and partner services of other countries, the Military Security Agency provided timely detection and assessment of indicators of possible and imminent threats to security and taking effective counterintelligence and security measures. The quality of the data collected through operational work enabled the adequate assessment of the situation and developments, management and undertaking of preventive and other protection measures of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Army from all threat sources and timely information of the competent state bodies in order to take measures within their competence.

In the reporting period, the Military Intelligence Agency cooperated with foreign intelligence and security services in accordance with the current political and security situation in the region and the zones of engagement of members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Army in multinational operations.

The Committee praised the decision of the Government of the Republic of Serbia on the number and location of defence attache offices abroad, expanding the network of defence attache offices, and the Committee members stressed that in the future they expect this practice to continue in line with defence needs, foreign policy priorities and economic opportunities. In the reporting period, the Military Intelligence Agency reported to users on regional and global challenges, risks and threats in a timely manner.

The Committee welcomed the cooperation and exchange of information between the military security services, as well as their cooperation with other services and state bodies of the Republic of Serbia, as well as the coordination of work during joint activities. The Committee members especially emphasised the importance of this cooperation and exchange of information in performing the tasks concerning the security and counter-intelligence protection of persons. The cooperation that the agencies have with the related foreign services is extremely important for the timely reporting and informing of the competent state bodies.

At the sittings, the Committee gave its full support to the Military Security and Military Intelligence Agency to continue to efficiently perform the set tasks and protect the interests of the citizens of the Republic of Serbia in the domain of their competencies.
