Third Sitting of the Committee on Spatial Planning, Transport, Infrastructure and Telecommunications

At the sitting held on 15 December 2020, the members of the Committee on Spatial Planning, Transport, Infrastructure and Telecommunications reviewed the Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communication and Postal Services (RATEL) 2019 Activity Report.


The Activity Report was presented by RATEL Director Dragan Pejovic who said that RATEL’s 2019 activities focused on maintaining a competitive market, improving the working conditions for the operators on the telecommunication and postal service market, improving the protection of end-users, improving the quality of services and promoting information security in the Republic of Serbia.

12,419 individual licences for the use of radio frequencies were issued, while 4,455 were revoked. In the course of the previous year, RATEL issued temporary licences for the use of radio frequencies for T-DAB radio stations in six locations thus continuing the test phase of the introduction of terrestrial digital audio broadcasting in Serbia. 2019 also saw the official launching of the 5G test phase with the issuance of temporary licences for the use of frequencies in the 3400-3800 MHz range, which is the basic range for the current stage of development of 5G technology.

The sitting also touched on the income achieved on Serbia’s electronic communication market in 2019 which was 205.8 billion RSD, making it 3.6% higher than last year. In 2019, electronic communication income made up 3.8% of Serbia’s GDP.

Following a discussion the Committee members adopted the Report and a Conclusion Proposal to be submitted to the National Assembly.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairperson Katarina Rakic and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Bojan Torbica, Goran Pekarski, Dejan Kesar, Goran Spasojevic, Nikola Vojinovic, Milosav Milojevic, Nikola Kozovic, Maja Grbic, Samir Tandir, Milutin Mrkonjic, Adrijana Pupovac and Zoran Bojanic.
