Tenth Extraordinary Sitting of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in 2005

At the request of the Government of the Republicof Serbia, the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republicof Serbia, Predrag Markovic, convened the Tenth Extraordinary Sitting of the National Assembly of the Republicof Serbiain 2005 for 22 August 2005. As the Ninth Extraordinary Sitting had not yet been concluded, the session commenced with a slight delay, at 10 a.


At the request of the Government of the Republicof Serbia, the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republicof Serbia, Predrag Markovic, convened the Tenth Extraordinary Sitting of the National Assembly of the Republicof Serbiain 2005 for 22 August 2005. As the Ninth Extraordinary Sitting had not yet been concluded, the session commenced with a slight delay, at 10 a.m.on 23 August.

The following agenda was set in the request of the Government of the Republicof Serbiafor holding the session:

1.University Education Bill, proposed by the Government of the Republicof Serbia;

2. Bill Amending and Modifying the Broadcasting Act, proposed by the Government of the Republicof Serbia.

Addressing the National Assembly at the start of the discussion in principle on the University Education Bill, the Minister of Education and Sports in the Government of the Republicof Serbia, Dr Slobodan Vuksanovic, underlined the importance of reforming the university education system and passing this piece of systemic legislation.

The National Assembly went on to discuss the University Education Bill in principle.

On the second day of the sitting (24 August), at the start of the discussion in principle on the Bill Amending and Modifying the Broadcasting Act, the deputies were addressed by the Minister of Culture in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Dragan Kojadinovic, as representative of the proposer.

Mr Kojadinovic underlined that the proposed changes would ensure the Act is implemented in a more efficient manner, as well as harmonise deadlines with other legislation and impose stricter fines for failing to adhere to the law.

The National Assembly concluded discussing the Bill Amending and Modifying the Broadcasting Act in principle.

On the third day of the sitting (25 August), the National Assembly discussed the particulars of the University Education Bill.

At the beginning of the fourth day of the sitting (29 August), the National Assembly observed a minute’s silence as a mark of respect for Ivan Dejanovic and Aleksandar Stankovic, Serbian youths murdered by Albanian terrorists in Kosovo and Metohia.

The National Assembly went on to discuss the particulars of the Bill Amending and Modifying the Broadcasting Act.

As the Assembly had discussed all items from the agenda, the Chairman convened a Voting Day session for 10 a.m.on Tuesday 30 August.

On Voting Day (30 August), the National Assembly adopted the University Bill and the Bill Amending and Modifying the Broadcasting Act in their entirety, after which the Chairman, Predrag Markovic, concluded the Tenth Extraordinary Sitting of the National Assembly of the Republicof Serbiain 2005.
