Sustained Dialogue at All Levels to Lead to Strong Economic Cooperation between Serbia and Mexico

The members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Mexico met today, at the National Assembly House, with the Mexican Ambassador in Serbia H.E. Marco Antonio García Blanco to discuss the bilateral relations between Serbia and Mexico and promotion of cooperation at the parliamentary and all other levels.

The Head of the PFG with Mexico Ana Ciric said that the two countries enjoy traditionally friendly and peaceful relations and have no outstanding issues, which contributes to the strengthening bilateral relations between Serbia and Mexico, and turn allows ample room to further overall cooperation. The PFG Head thanked Mexico for its principled support of Serbia’s territorial integrity and the decision not to endorse Kosovo’s UNESCO bid. Ciric said that Serbia’s priority is both EU accession, as well as good relations with Russia, China and the countries of Latin America which take on exceptionally important place on Serbia’s foreign policy agenda. Finally, she stressed that she would strive to intensify economic cooperation between the two countries through parliamentary cooperation, as well as advance relations through culture and tourism.

The Ambassador informed the PFG members that Mexican parliamentarians are very interested in cooperating with Serbia, evidenced in the operation of the PFG with Serbia in the Mexican Congress. He added that sustained dialogue at all levels would strengthen the relations between the two countries, which would in turn lead to a rise in economic exchange and development of tourism in both countries. The Ambassador briefed the PFG members on Mexico’s relations with the new American administration, stressing that Mexico is open to dialogue and peaceable solutions for all the outstanding issues. So far, these relations were grounded in reciprocal responsibility and respect, and the Government and people of Mexico are following the new situation with all seriousness and concern. Since Mexico is one of the USA’s most important economic partners, he hopes that good will and dialogue would yield a rational solution. The Ambassador agreed with the PFG members that they need to work on strengthening the economic cooperation between Serbia and Mexico and announced seminars on the issue to be organized in April of this year. In the end, he concluded that Mexico would continue to support Serbia’s territorial integrity and contribute to its interest concerning the participation of the so-called state of Kosovo in all international organizations.
