Serbian National Assembly Deputy Speaker Marina Ragus at Second Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange
Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Marina Ragus, spoke at the Second Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange, held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.
She emphasised the special significance of holding the conference at a time of intense changes and turbulence on the geopolitical scene and pointed out the importance of sending a strong political message from that gathering that should resonate and bring peoples and states together around one goal - building a community with a shared future in a new era.
"During the visit of the President of the People's Republic of China, Mr. Xi Jinping, to Serbia in May 2024, Serbia became the first European country to be given the opportunity to build a community with a shared future in a new era with China. This means that two countries, two peoples, two leaders have recognised a turning point that will determine the fate of humanity. The presidents of China and Serbia have clearly established and presented the vision of the global society that they want to build and in which they want to show their peoples, as well as others, that a different world is possible. This community with a shared future in a new era reaffirms long-forgotten principles. These are the principles of mutual respect with a good understanding of the specificities of all peoples, active peaceful coexistence and development. With the essential realisation of the prerequisites necessary for the implementation of basic principles such as the guarantee of sustainable peace and security. This is precisely the basis of the three global initiatives that President Xi Jinping presented to the world, not that long ago, in 2013, announcing the "Belt and Road" project," said the National Assembly Deputy Speaker.
She emphasised that only China has offered the entire world its economic progress as a context and an inalienable part of overall global development, thereby explaining to everyone that the imperatives to strive for are global peace and a security initiative.
"As steel friends, China and Serbia, presidents Xi Jinping and Aleksandar Vucic, with big and strong steps, are presenting to all of us and the rest of the world a model that is being built through the very turbulent waters of the global scene: in political terms, this means that this year, during a bilateral meeting in Moscow on 9 May, the two statesmen opened the door to a new phase of relations based on a strategic and highest level: “This means that we see each other at least once a year, that we manage all processes, that we control the processes of our cooperation and that we can adopt plans and programmes for the future. It is a huge change for such a large country to propose such a type of coordination to a small country where the two presidents will see each other at least once a year and agree on further actions," said the President of Serbia, Mr. Aleksandar Vucic, on that occasion," Ragus emphasised.
The meeting was attended by Vice Premier of the People's Republic of China Ding Xuexiang, Vice President of Iran Hossein Afshin, First Vice President of Uzbekistan Achilbay Ramatov, and UN Special Representative for Technology Amandeep Gill.
