Security Services Control Committee in Supervisory Visit to Security Information Agency Centre in Novi Sad

In line with the Committee’s 2014 Activity Plan, the members of the Security Services Control Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia conducted a supervisory visit to the Security Information Agency Centre in Novi Sad on 22 October 2014.

The supervisory visit to the Security Information Agency’s regional unit in Novi Sad is the first visit of its kind.

The Committee delegation was headed by Committee Chairman Momir Stojanovic and comprised Committee members MA Igor Becic, Veroljub Arsic and Zeljko Susec, and Committee substitute members Vladimir Djukanovic and Dr Milorad Mijatovic.

The supervisory visit to the Security Information Agency Centre was preceded by a visit to the Security Information Agency headquarters on 31 July 2014.

In line with its duties pursuant to the Law on the Bases of Security Services Organization, National Assembly Rules of Procedure and the Committee Decision regulating the manner in which the Committee conducted direct supervision over the work of the security services, the Committee delegation supervised the legality of the Security Information Agency Centre’s work and the legality of the implementation of special procedures and measures for the collection of confidential data.

In the course of the supervisory visit, the Committee members also supervised the legality of the implementation of special procedures outlined in the Law on the Security Information Agency, as well as the legality of the performance of the Security Information Agency’s duties in the conduction of special evidence collection procedures regulated by the Criminal Procedure Code. The Committee delegation members had direct insight into the documentation on cases realised in the period 2013 – first half of 2014 and found that in the cases supervised the Security Information Agency had followed appropriate procedure.

This was the first in a series of planned supervisory visits to the security service centres which the Security Services Control Committee is to realise in the immediate future in line with its Activity Plan, so as to supervise the constitutionality and legality of the security services’ work, as well as supervise the legality of the implementation of special procedures and measures for the collection of confidential data.
