Ninth Sitting of the Second Regular Session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in 2005

The Ninth Sitting of the Second Regular Session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in 2005 was convened for 11 a.


The Ninth Sitting of the Second Regular Session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in 2005 was convened for 11 a.m. on Thursday 22 December 2005.

At the outset of the sitting, the Acting Chairman, Vojislav Mihajlovic, informed the deputies that a Deputies’ Group under the name of For a European Serbia had been formed at the National Assembly. For a European Serbia is made up of five deputies; its chairperson is deputy Ljiljana Nestorovic, and the vice-chairman is deputy Slobodan Zivkucin.

The following agenda was adopted by the deputies for this session:


    - Bill Amending and Modifying the Code on Criminal Proceedings, proposed by the Government of the Republic of Serbia;


    - Election of public prosecutors and assistant public prosecutors:

– Proposal of the Decision on the Election of Public Prosecutors, proposed by the High Judicial Council;

– Proposal of the Decision on the Election of Assistant Public Prosecutors, proposed by the High Judicial Council;


    - Proposal of the Decision Amending the Decision on the Election of Members of Committees of the National Assembly, proposed by deputy Miloljub Albijanic, chairman of the G17 Plus Deputies’ Group;


    - Election of a Vice-Chairperson of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, based on a motion proposed by 43 deputies of the Democratic Party of Serbia Deputies’ Group, and


    - Proposal of the Decision Amending the Decision on the Election of Members of Committees of the National Assembly, proposed by deputy Tomislav Nikolic, vice-chairman of the Serbian Radical Party Deputies’ Group.

After the midday recess, the National Assembly discussed the Bill Amending and Modifying the Code on Criminal Proceedings in principle. The Bill was presented by the Minister of Justice, Zoran Stojkovic, who said that the legal time limit for remand in custody should be extended from two to four years for serious criminal offences relating to organised crime that do not carry a maximum sentence of 40 years imprisonment.

The deputies went on to discuss proposals of decisions on the election of public prosecutors and assistant public prosecutors, proposals of decisions amending the Decision on the Election of Members of Committees of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, and the motion to elect a Vice-Chairperson of the National Assembly.

After discussion on all items from the agenda ended, at the Voting Day session the National Assembly adopted the Bill Amending and Modifying the Code on Criminal Proceedings, the Proposal of the Decision on the Election of Public Prosecutors, the Proposal of the Decision on the Election of Assistant Public Prosecutors, the proposals of decisions amending and modifying the Decision on the Election of Members of Committees of the National Assembly, and elected Radojko Obradovic Vice-Chairperson of the National Assembly.

After voting ended, the Chairman of the National Assembly, Predrag Markovic, concluded the Ninth Sitting of the Second Regular Session of the National Assembly in 2005.
