The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with Hungarian President Katalin Novak, taking the opportunity to stress how proud he is of the friendly relations between the two countries and the invaluable results we have achieved together.

"Our friendship, which we managed to build in the last ten years, is like no other in Europe. We enjoy excellent cooperation in across the board, thanks to your personal contribution and, of course, thanks to the strong leadership of the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic," stressed National Assembly Speaker Dr Orlic, adding that the National Assembly supports this policy of friendship and cooperation through its abundant interparliamentary activities. Stressing that the previous legislature’s Parliamentary Friendship Group with Hungary was one of the largest, he said he believed it would be the same in the new legislature.

"The results of our successful cooperation are reflected in numerous joint projects that have become a reality, such as the modernisation of the railway which has chimed in a new era of transport in this part of Europe," said Dr Orlic. He emphasised the importance of two countries’ joint fight for energy security, thanking Hungary for making it possible for Serbia to secure additional gas storage capacities. "That is a strong proof of our friendship and the extraordinary relations of our political leaders," said Dr Orlic.

The Hungarian President expressed satisfaction with the fact that Hungarians in Serbia are seen as respected citizens with whom Serbia shares common goals and that Serbs have the equal support in Hungary, emphasising the importance of their active participation on the political scene aimed at contributing to the quality of life of their community. She agreed with Dr Orlic that the exceptional relations are owed to the strong and capable leadership of the two countries, expressing satisfaction with the President Aleksandar Vucic’s affirmation that the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians would be part of the new Government.

National Assembly Speaker Dr Orlic thanked Hungary for supporting Serbia on the way to full EU membership and for the clear political support at every opportunity. The Hungarian President stressed that our country's membership in the European Union could be extremely important, both for the Union and for the Western Balkans.

"I am sure that together we will manage to achieve many more important victories for our two countries and our two peoples in the years to come," concluded National Assembly Speaker Dr Orlic, stressing that he would be extremely pleased if his first bilateral visit, after taking the office of National Assembly Speaker, were to be a visit to Hungary.
