National Assembly Speaker Receives EXPO 2027 Rapporteurs: Serbia and Belgrade are Good Hosts, We are Ready to Prove it

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with a delegation of the Bureau International des Expositions (International Bureau for Exhibitions) Enquiry Mission to speak about the candidacy of the Republic of Serbia, City of Belgrade, to host the International Specialised Exhibition EXPO 2027.

The National Assembly Speaker expressed his belief that, as a country and as the City of Belgrade, we have already proven to be good hosts and organisers of important international events, with the necessary infrastructural, professional and human capacities.

Dr Orlic pointed out that the Republic of Serbia has successfully organised international sports competitions, business gatherings, as well as visits of the world's biggest officials. He reminded the guests that in October 2019, the National Assembly was the host of the 141st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the oldest global parliamentary organisation, successfully hosting more than 130 parliament speakers and deputy speakers, as well as 150 different parliamentary delegations. On that occasion, our delegation received congratulations from numerous participants, who shared the impression that it was the largest and best organised IPU they attended.

He said that there is great enthusiasm and strong institutional and political support for organising such an important event for Serbia as is the International Specialised Exhibition EXPO 2027.

The representatives of the rapporteurs’ delegation, President of the BIE Executive Committee Alain Berger and Secretary General Dimitri Kerkentzes, said that it is essential that, in a country that wants to be a candidate, all relevant actors, economic and political, be united for the realisation of this important international event, adding that they gained that impression during their stay in Serbia. They also assessed that Serbia and Belgrade have the necessary capacities to organise this event, which will have positive effects for all the citizens of Serbia. "The political resolve and institutional will are exemplary. We know you have what it takes to be a contender and that is a strong message for us", Berger said.

The National Assembly Speaker added that Serbia is sending the message that it knows how to be a good host, to head joint achievements and cooperation between countries and peoples, and that the "Open Balkans" initiative, which originated in our country, is the real proof of that. "In that way, Belgrade and Serbia have shown their readiness for cooperation that ensures progress and strengthens values. I am sure that EXPO 2027 will be an excellent opportunity to confirm this once again", said Dr Orlic.
