The National Assembly Speaker emphasised the importance Serbia attaches to cooperation with the OSCE and the Office of the High Commissioner on National Minorities, underlining the country’s full commitment to the protection and promotion of national minority rights. He reminded his guest that Serbia has a Ministry for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue, which aims to promote and protect human and minority rights. Ivica Dacic briefed the High Commissioner on the National Assembly’s activities and the participation of representatives of national minorities in its work. He pointed out that they have the opportunity to address the parliament in their mother tongue, "and we are especially proud that the representatives of national minorities in the current legislature also hold the positions of National Assembly deputy speakers," said Ivica Dacic.

High Commissioner Abdrakhmanov emphasised the partnership and good cooperation of his Office with Serbia, saying that they appreciate the efforts Serbia is investing in the promotion and protection of national minority rights. As an example of good cooperation, he cited the work on the adoption of the Law on the Protection of the Rights and Freedoms of National Minorities, where the OSCE provided advisory services in drafting the Law which is one of the most advanced laws in this area in the region. He said that during his visit to Serbia, in addition to meetings with officials, he will also meet with representatives of national minorities, which will help him gain a clear insight into the situation in Serbia. He added that his Office and the OSCE stand ready to provide assistance, if needed, in organising the census, as well as in the collection and processing of data on national minorities.
