National Assembly Speaker Dr Vladimir Orlic Meets with Slovenian Ambassador to Serbia Damjan Bergant

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with the Slovenian Ambassador to Serbia Damjan Bergant.

Dr Orlic opined that our bilateral relations are following an upward trajectory and have reached the highest level since their establishment. He stressed that Slovenia is an important economic partners and investors in Serbia, pointing out that thousands of companies from Serbia and Slovenia are active on both markets, through both trade and investments. Dr Orlic thanked Slovenia for its active support of Serbia's European path.

Ambassador Damjan Bergant said that Serbia is an important economic and political partner for Slovenia, adding that it is a key factor of stability and security in the Western Balkans.

The importance of the "Open Balkans" initiative was mentioned as an example of successful regional cooperation, which originated with President Aleksandar Vucic.

Speaking about the current situation in Kosovo-Metohija, the National Assembly Speaker pointed out that the Serbian people face great pressures on a daily basis, caused by the irresponsible behaviour of the Provisional Institutions in Pristina. Serbia’s leadership, headed by President Vucic, is committed to dialogue and finding a compromise solution, he said, expressing satisfaction that an agreement was reached that both preserves our statehood in Kosovo-Metohija and at the same time ensures free movement for all the citizens of Serbia.

The Slovenian Ambassador said that he understood Serbia's position and expressed his support for the continuation of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, stressing that this dialogue should not slow down Serbia's progress on the path to the European Union. He added that the moves of the Serbian leadership contribute to the preservation of peace and stability, emphasising that any attempts to force the expulsion of population are unacceptable from the aspect of international law and European values.

The officials agreed to continue communication and cooperation at the mutual benefit of the two countries.
