National Assembly Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality Committee Members to Visit Safe House in Belgrade

To commemorate the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence coming into force on 1 August, the members of the National Assembly’s Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality will be visiting the Belgrade Safe House.

One of the obligations stemming the Convention is undertaking all necessary legislative and other measures to ensure the opening of enough appropriate, easily-accessible safe houses for secure accommodation and a proactive approach to victims of violence, especially women and their children.
On the occasion, the MPs will learn more about the operation of the Belgrade Safe House and commence a discussion on Serbia’s practice as regards the accessibility of the specialist services demanded by the Convention, particularly the existence of enough easily-accessible safe houses and the measures to be undertaken to improve the situation in the field.
