At the Conference, hosted by the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in two sessions, the highest parliamentary representatives of the eight AII countries discussed connecting the region in order to strengthen sustainable tourism and including the parliamentary dimension in the achievement of the goals of the Adriatic Ionian Initiative. The Conference focused on strengthening regional cooperation in the development of sustainable tourism and improving the road network between the countries in the region. The participants concluded that progress is possible only through the concentrated efforts of the states in the region.
Speaking of the role of the parliamentary dimension in the achievement of the goals of the Adriatic Ionian Initiative, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Veroljub Arsic said that the Republic of Serbia supports and actively contributes to the activities relating to the EU Strategy for the Adriatic Ionian region.
The Conference ended with the adoption of a Joint Statement in which the participants commend the realisation of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic Ionian macroregion and confirm their full support for the governments and all the other institutions involved in the realisation of the strategy which is a way to achieve sustainable economic and social progress in the region.
In the Joint Statement, the participants of the Conference expressed their deepest sympathies for the recent tragic death of migrants in the Mediterranean and called for an urgent resolution of this humanitarian problem.
