National Assembly Deputy Speaker Elvira Kovacs Takes Part in Panel Organised by European Movement in Serbia

National Assembly Deputy Speaker and European Integration Committee Chairperson Elvira Kovacs took part today in a panel organised by the European Movement in Serbia with the topic: "Far is close - how far we have come with European integration".

European Parliament’s Standing Rapporteur for Serbia Vladimir Bilcik, acting assistant minister of foreign affairs for the European Union Milos Todorovic and European integration expert Vladimir Medjak spoke in the first part of the panel dedicated to the analysis of European values and Serbia’s achievements as regards EU standards and requirements.

In addition to National Assembly Deputy Speaker Elvira Kovacs, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of European Affairs in the Government of Montenegro Jovana Marovic, Romania’s special envoy for the Western Balkans Adrian Davidoiu and President of the European Movement in Serbia Jelica Minic spoke in the second part of the panel on the topic of regional cooperation and foreign policy.

Speaking on the subject of regional cooperation and foreign policy, Deputy Speaker Kovacs highlighted the recent successful visit of the European Union-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee to Strasbourg, during which the members of the National Assembly discussed various topics in the process of Serbia's European integration with fellow members of the European Parliament. She also emphasised the importance of the participation of the members of the European Integration Committee in the Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the European Union, especially when the enlargement policy is on the agenda. She spoke about the work of the European Integration Committee, with a special focus on the Committee's excellent cooperation with civil society organisations and the National Convention on the EU. Kovacs said that harmonisation with the foreign policy of the European Union is important, but the interest of the Serbian citizens comes first.

Finally, she announced that the National Assembly would soon have a plenary session, the agenda of which would include conclusions on the European Commission's 2022 Report on Serbia, proposed by the MPs. She mentioned that she has convened a meeting of the European Integration Committee for today, where Minister Miscsevic will present the Bill on the Confirmation of the Financial Framework Partnership Agreement between the European Commission and the Republic of Serbia Represented by the Government of the Republic of Serbia on Specific Arrangements for Implementation of Union Financial Assistance to the Republic of Serbia under the Instrument of Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA III).
