National Assembly Delegation at the Conference of the International Foundation for the Unity of Orthodox Christian Nations in Budapest

MPs Aleksandar Cotric and MA Ivan Kostic took part in the 24th Annual Conference of the International Foundation for the Unity of Orthodox Christian Nations with the topic “National Awareness and problems of integration”, co-organized with the Budapest-Vienna Eparchy of the Russian Orthodox Church in Budapest, 15-17 April 2019.

MP Aleksandar Cotric said that, due to the decline in use of the Cyrillic script, the Ministry of Culture and Media had last year suggested to the Serbian Government to set up a Council for the Serbian Language to take care of the official and public use of the Cyrillic script and, parallel with the Committee for the Standardization of the Serbian Language, take care of the regulation, maintenance, improvement and protection of the official language and native alphabet. The Assembly had received a proposal to amend and modify the Law on the Official Use of Language and Script according to which the Cyrillic script is defined as “native alphabet” and Latin as “support script”. Cotric said that same goes for educational and scientific institutions and media founded by the state, using state capital, and electronic media with national, regional and local frequencies. The Cyrillic script would also be mandatory for all public enterprises and institutions and companies with majority state capital, as well as professional and vocational associations representing their area of expertise at the national and international level.

MP MA Ivan Kostic said that the moral abyss modern Europe and indeed many countries around the world are dangling over can only be remedied by a return to true Christian faith. He urged to strengthen the Christian orthodox awareness of the Serbian people, stressing that there are over 2000 Orthodox churches on the territory of Kosovo-Metohija. Kostic thanked Russia for its help in international organizations such as the UN, UNESCO and INTERPOL. He also denounced the 1999 NATO bombing and its negative impact on security in the region.
