The conference, co-organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Parliament of the Kingdom of Morocco, was held in Marrakesh, Kingdom of Morocco, 13 – 15 June 2023.

The participants of the conference pointed out the need for dialogue on key issues of importance for building more peaceful and inclusive societies, such as: the relationship between the rule of law and freedom of religion or belief, parliaments’ cooperation with religious communities to mobilise society for greater solidarity and inclusion, contribution of religious actors and parliamentarians to counter hate speech and violence, as well as digital challenges.

The members of the Committee's delegation participated both in the general debate and in several panels. In their discussions, they touched on a number of important topics, among them the promotion of interfaith dialogue, as well as dialogue between representatives of different religious communities and politicians which should contribute to reconciliation in the Western Balkans, as well as general democratisation in society, drawing attention to examples of good practice as well as existing challenges. They particularly emphasised the importance of the further improvement of gender equality, the need for greater participation of young people in public affairs and the need to take more effective measures to prevent hate speech in public.
