Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality Committee Chairman’s Request to Visit Oliver Ivanovic, Refused

Prison authorities in Kosovska Mitrovica refused the request of the Chairman of the Committee on Human and Minority Rights and Gender Equality Meho Omerovic to visit Oliver Ivanovic, held in custody for over six months without any charges raised against him. Omerovic planned the visit for Tuesday, 5 August 2014.

EULEX permits to enter via Jarinje had been obtained through the Republic of Serbia Government Office for Kosovo-Metohija with the request stating that a visit to Oliver Ivanovic and a meeting with his family had been planned.
Despite the aforementioned, the prison authorities in Kosovska Mitrovica denied the visit explaining that Meho Omerovic is a public figure.
