Head of National Assembly’s Standing Delegation to Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie MA Jadranka Jovanovic Takes Part in 44th Plenary Session

MA Jadranka Jovanovic, Head of the standing delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie (APF), took part in the 44th plenary session of the APF in Quebec City, Canada.


In the opening part of the plenary session, attended by more than 300 parliamentarians, representatives of 58 parliaments, the participants were addressed by the President of the National Assembly of Quebec and APF President Jacques Chagnon, APF Secretary General Jacques Krabal, Secretary General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie Michaëlle Jean and Quebec Minister of Education, Recreation and Sports Sebastien Proulx. The topic of the session was “Parliamentary best practices in the age of digitalization”.

The representatives of the parliaments of APF member states and associates affirmed the decision to set up a Network of young APF members with the idea to gather young APF parliamentarians around the core values of La Francophonie, encourage the exchange of experiences and affirm the principle of solidarity.

APF Secretary General Jacques Krabal presented the APF Annual Activity Report, after which the parliamentarians confirmed the APF Treasurer Alex Baudry’s report.

Regarding the request of the so-called “Kosovo” Assembly to be accepted as an observer, the Head of the National Assembly’s delegation of APF MA Jadranka Jovanovic informed the participants that the unilateral and illegitimate declaration of independence of so-called “Kosovo” contradicts international law, Resolution 1244 and the basic principles of the Charter of La Francophonie. She informed the representatives of the parliaments of APF member states and associates how many countries did not recognize so-called “Kosovo” as an independent state and how many had retracted their recognition.

On the margins of the session the Head of the delegation met with the Speaker of the Parliament of Guinea-Bissau Cipriano Cassama and representatives of the French Foreign Ministry. Parliament Speaker Cassama shared his support of Serbia’s efforts to maintain its territorial integrity.
