Foreign Affairs and European Integration Committee Members Meet with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and European Commission Vice-President

The members of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the European Integration Committee met, at the National Assembly House, with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and European Commission Vice-President Federica Mogherini.

Foreign Affairs Committee Chairperson Aleksandra Djurovic and European Integration Committee Chairman Aleksandar Senic informed the EU High Representative about the National Assembly’s and their respective committees’ role in the European integration process, stressing that all the political parties at the National Assembly have reached a consensus as regards EU accession.
The two committee chairpersons stressed that Serbia is committed to maintaining stability in the region and fostering good-neighbourly relations, adding that the National Assembly would continue to actively contribute to the harmonisation with the EU common foreign and security policy.
Addressing the members of the two committees, EU High Representative Federica Mogherini commended the efforts the National Assembly invests into the rapprochement of the national legislation with the EU acquis and Serbia’s contribution to the integration process of the entire Western Balkans region.
Federica Mogherini said she was sure that some negotiation chapters would be opened this year, and asked about the public opinion on the European integration process. They all agreed that the inclusion of civil society into the deliberations on the negotiation chapters is very important so that the citizens could learn about all the advantages of EU membership.
Speaking of the application of the Brussels Agreement, Mogherini said that the progress in its implementation is visible, but the intensive political dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina should be continued so as to ensure normal life for all the citizens in Kosovo-Metohija.
