Foreign Affairs Committee and PFG with Cuba Delegation Visit Cuban National Assembly of People's Power

A delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Cuba of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, headed by Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic, visited Cuba at the invitation of Yolanda Ferrer Gomez, Chairperson of the International Relations Committee of the Cuban National Assembly of People's Power, 12 – 15 May 2019.

The delegation also comprised Prof. Dr Ljubisa Stojmirovic, head of the PFG with Cuba and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, and Olivera Ognjanovic, member of the PFG with Cuba.

The delegation met with the Vice-President of the of the Cuban National Assembly of People's Power Ana Maria Mari Machado, Chairperson of the International Relations Committee of Yolanda Ferrer Gomez, Chairman of the Education Committee Andres Castro Alegria and the head of the Ciba-Serbia Friendship Group Jose Antonio Perez Perez. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the delegation also met with Anayansi Rodriguez Camejo, Deputy Minister in charge of multilateral affairs.

The officials emphasized the importance of parliamentary cooperation, with a special focus on multilateral cooperation within international organizations. Protocol of Cooperation between the two parliaments and frequent contacts and exchange of information are a good way to advance parliamentary cooperation which would in turn improve overall bilateral relations, they said.

The Cuban hosts reaffirmed Cuba’s staunch support of Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-recognition of so-called Kosovo and opposition to its attempts to join international organizations.

The head of the Serbian delegation, Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic said that the parliaments should also help in the development of economic cooperation, for which there is ample potential.
