Foreign Affairs Committee Delegation Headed by Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic Meets with Turkish Grand National Assembly Deputy Speaker

The Deputy Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Süreyya Sadi Bilgiç emphasized the importance of the bilateral cooperation between Serbia and Turkey and reaffirmed Turkey’s support for the improvement of economic development, realization of infrastructural projects and finding solutions to the problems in the region.


In the meeting with the delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia headed by the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic visiting Turkey, the two sides noted that the level of the relations between the two countries in the year marking the 140th anniversary of diplomatic affairs is at its peak, an achievement greatly aided by their parliamentary cooperation.

The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic said that Turkey as an important world power is expected to use its influence to promote a continuation of dialogue and finding a solution for the problems in the Balkans.

The Turkish hosts stressed that Turkey considers the continuation of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue greatly important, hoping that after the elections in Kosovo the new government would revoke the 100% customs tariff on goods from central Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The officials also discussed the opportunities for the further development of parliamentary cooperation offered by the Protocol of Cooperation between the two parliaments.

They also agreed to transpose the trilateral cooperation mechanism between Serbia, Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina that contributes to the strengthening of stability and development in the region, to the parliamentary level.

Both sides agreed that there is ample potential to boost trade between the two countries and advance economic cooperation in general, as well as cooperation in the fields of education, science and culture. The Serbian Assembly delegation said they hoped Turkey’s growing interest in investing into Serbian economy would continue to follow an upward trend.

They also touched on the idea to promote cooperation between the two countries’ parliamentarians involved in scientific work and research to organize scientific summits of importance for Turkey and Serbia.

They agreed to continue with the support in international organizations on the achievement of goals of mutual interest.

The delegation, also comprising Prof. Dr Zoran Dragisic, Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Turkey, Foreign Affairs Committee members Maja Macuzic Puzic and Djordje Kosanic, and Nada Lazic, member of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Turkey, also met with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Volkan Bozkir and Committee members, as well as the Head of the Turkey-Serbia Parliamentary Friendship Group Mustafa Esgin and Group members.

The delegation also met with Minister of Justice and co-chair of the Mixed Commission for Economic Cooperation Abdulhamit Gul and Deputy Foreign Minister Yavuz Selim Kiran.
