Committee Chairman Aleksandar Senic briefed Commissioner Hahn on the role the National Assembly plays in the European integration process, assuring him of the MPs commitment to actively contribute to a swift completion of the EU accession process. Senic hopes that chapter 32 - financial control, would soon be opened considering that the negotiating position has already been adopted.
EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn relayed the EU members states’ support for the efforts Serbia puts into its progress toward the European Union. Hahn said that the EU accession process is an inclusive one and requires civil society to play an important role in it. That is why the citizens of Serbia should be kept duly informed on the negotiations process and the advantages Serbia would gain once it becomes a full member of the European family, said Hahn addressing the Committee members.
The officials also discussed the order in which the negotiations chapters would be opened, noting that, besides the harmonisation of the legislation with the EU acquis and building up administrative capacities, additional efforts should be put into economic recovery and creation of a favourable environment for foreign investment.
The meeting was attended by the Head of the European Union Delegation to Serbia, Michael Davenport.
