Greeting the Chinese delegation members, Committee Chairperson Vesna Marjanovic said how pleased she was with the excellent cooperation between the All-China Journalists Association and the Journalists’ Association of Serbia. Marjanovic informed the Chinese delegation members about the recently adopted set of media laws, as well as the privatisation process which should be completed by the end of the year.
The members of the two delegations discussed the economic and professional position of journalists in Serbia and China, with the Committee Chairperson Vesna Marjanovic saying that the difficult economic position of journalists in Serbia reflects on the quality and content of their reporting. Marjanovic added that the membership in the Council of Europe and future EU membership oblige Serbia to accept the standards and values of the European Convention on Human Rights which, among other things, include freedom of thought and speech and freedom of the media.
The members of the delegation of the All-China Journalists Association asked about the Public Information Law and the representation of national minorities at the National Assembly.
Both delegations expressed pleasure at the long-standing friendly relations between the Serbian and Chinese people, and the Committee members said they hope the All-China Journalists Association’s cooperation with the National Assembly and the Culture and Information Committee would continue to develop.
