Brnabic Discusses Cooperation with Speakers of Parliaments of St. Kitts and Nevis and St. Lucia

Today, after the meeting with the Speaker of Parliament of St. Kitts and Nevis Lanein Blanchette and the Speaker of Parliament of St. Lucia Claudius Francis, Serbian National Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabic said, that they discussed parliamentary cooperation, as well as education and increasing the number of "World in Serbia" scholarships.

After the meeting, Brnabic told reporters that this is the first time in the history of relations that we have had a visit from the heads of parliament of these two countries to Serbia.

She said that she had met the Speaker of Parliament of St. Lucia at the inauguration of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, when Francis promised to visit Serbia.

"He kept his promise and invested his personal authority to bring along the Speaker of Parliament of St. Kitts and Nevis on the visit," said Brnabic.

She added that both countries will participate in the specialised exhibition in Belgrade, Expo 2027.

"Serbia's great wish has always been to present not only Serbia in 2027, but also all our friends, thanks to whom or with whose support we were given the opportunity to organise this important world exhibition in Belgrade," Brnabic said.

She emphasised that they discussed potential cooperation in many areas, and that the most important area was education and the "World in Serbia" scholarship programme.

"We are increasing the number of scholarships we offer to these countries, and on the other hand, let us see how we can better promote Serbia and how they can use more scholarships, because so far only five scholarships have been used in total, and that is a bridge for further cooperation in the future," said Brnabic.

She added that the Serbian National Assembly pays great attention to cooperation with the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, which is why a parliamentary friendship group with Caribbean countries was formed, which has 33 members.

The Head of the parliamentary group, Ivana Stamatovic, has her own ideas on how to further improve this cooperation, Brnabic emphasised, and expressed her expectation that the Serbian Parliament will show equal respect and attention to our friends in the coming months and years.

"What we as Serbia have received - trust and support from Caribbean countries, even when the UN General Assembly voted not to declare the Serbian people a genocidal people, is truly enormous support from Caribbean countries. I expect to see how we can show equal respect and attention to our friends and through our parliamentary friendship group to see how we can support their further development," said Brnabic.
