26th Sitting of the Security Services Control Committee

At the 26th sitting, held on 29 January 2019, the Security Services Control Committee considered and adopted the Security Information Agency Activity Report for the period 1 April – 30 September 2018 and the Report on the security situation in the Republic of Serbia (December 2018).

The Committee members gave a positive assessment of the professional conduct and work of the Security Information Agency’s personnel in the reporting period, its activities on the realization of the key tasks concerning the protection of the order and security of the Republic of Serbia as stipulated by the Constitution, opposing organized crime and criminal activities with a foreign element, internal and international terrorism

Committee Chairman MA Igor Becic praised the efforts of President Aleksandar Vucic and the Serbian Government on combating organized crime and discovering the perpetrators of serious crimes. He also spoke about the current security challenges, global and regional threats of importance for the security of the Republic of Serbia and its citizens and the importance of timely responses to any possible future developments.

The officials opined that the current security situation in AP Kosovo-Metohija compounds the security situation and demands a higher degree of engagement. They also discussed the current situation in the Republic of Srpska, opining that the security situation therein is stable despite the country’s continued exposure to different higher or lesser-degree challenges, risks and threats.

In the course of the discussion, the representatives of the Security Information Agency headed by Mr Bratislav Gasic, Director of the Security Information Agency, responded to the Committee members’ questions about the reports and offered more detailed information.

The Security Services Control Committee will continue with its active supervision of the security services to help coordinate and concentrate their efforts on achieving the national interests realized via intelligence and security-related activities.

The sitting, closed to the public, was chaired by Committee Chairman MA Igor Becic.
