23rd Sitting of the Subcommittee for Monitoring the Agricultural Situation in the Marginal - Most Undeveloped Areas in the Republic of Serbia

At the sitting held on 27 November, the members of the Subcommittee for Monitoring the Agricultural Situation in the Marginal - Most Undeveloped Areas in the Republic of Serbia discussed fruit breeding – preparations for the winter.

Subcommittee Chairman Milija Miletic said that the Republic of Serbia assists fruit breeding through subsidies and the program of assistance for uniform regional development through financial incentives for perennial crops, herd expansion and purchase of mechanisation for existing and new cooperatives. Miletic said he hopes that more funds would be secured to ensure the future of fruit breeding in the marginal-least developed areas of Serbia.

Velimir Stanojevic, State Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, said that an analysis of fruit production in Serbia is underway to ascertain zones and localities suitable for the development of fruit breeding. Stanojevic added that incentives had been secured for perennial crops, mechanisation, processing and similar.

The Subcommittee Chairman concluded that the incentives need to be paid out as soon as possible, and presence in the field should be increased to ensure better fruit breeding conditions in the marginal-least developed areas of Serbia.

The sitting was chaired by Subcommittee Chairman Milija Miletic, and attended by Subcommittee members Zarko Bogatinovic and Mladen Lukic.
