22nd Sitting of the Subcommittee for Monitoring the Agricultural Situation in the Marginal - Most Undeveloped Areas in the Republic of Serbia

At the sitting held on 10 November, the members of the Subcommittee for Monitoring the Agricultural Situation in the Marginal - Most Undeveloped Areas in the Republic of Serbia discussed agricultural insurance.

Subcommittee Chairman Milija Miletic emphasized the importance of the right to insurance incentive provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management for heads of agricultural households in the amount of 40% of the insurance premium without tax. He said that the right to insurance incentive is realized through a request submitted between 1 July and 15 November and urged the heads of agricultural households to get insured and minimize any potential damage.

Senad Mahmutovic, State Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, said that the insurance programme is a direct support measure and as such the only one the offers the possibility to apply for in local self-government units. Mahmutovic said that the measure could use more promotion and the farmers eligible for it should be better informed seeing how on the entire territory of Serbia, besides the state incentives, only 9% of arable land is insured. The representative of “Danube Insurance” said that achieving better results calls fa cooperation of all the insurance companies and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management.

The sitting was chaired by Subcommittee Chairman Milija Miletic.
