“Belgrade in Andric’s Footsteps”

The National Assembly House was presented as one of the 15 locations of the event “Belgrade in Andric’s Footsteps” which marks several jubilees related to the life and work of Ivo Andric, Serbian writer and diplomat and only Nobel Prize winner.

Addressing the citizens in the plenary hall, where a plaque bearing Andric’s name was set up, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic Dejanovic, acting President of the Republic of Serbia, reminded them that Andric was a deputy at the FPRY National Assembly from 1950 to 1953, and stressing that “this position of his gives courage to all who have sat or will sit on these benches”.

“I am sure the memorial plaque bearing the name of our Nobel Prize winner will obligate all who will occupy these benches starting from St. George’s Day (Djurdjevdan) to a higher degree of responsibility to the position Ivo Andric held from 1950 to 1953".

The event “Belgrade in Andric’s Footsteps” was organised to mark several jubilees related to the life and work of the Serbian writer and diplomat and only Nobel Prize winner. Ivo Andric was elected FPRY National Assembly deputy in April 1950.
